HENRY HUDSON AND HIS RIVER, accompanied by educational workshops and
teacher packets, will be available to schools, community groups, and
Hudson 400 festivities throughout 2009 as an eba Dance Theatre
arts-in-education program.
This performance and participatory workshop is specially designed to
supplement local and state history curriculum. An eba Dance Theatre in
school residency can look something like this. Teachers prepare
students for the residency with the accompanying teacher packet
pre-performance information. On residency day, students begin their
morning with an eba workshop, covering the voyages of Henry Hudson and
his important role in local history. The students re-enacted Hudson's
voyages, focusing on his discovery of the Hudson River. Twelve fifth
graders are selected by you to participate in the performance and
attend a rehearsal with eba Artistic Director Maude Baum. The students
will portray the Native Americans that Hudson encountered on his
journey up the Hudson River. In the afternoon, all students watch the
eba performing artists and their fellow students bring the story of
Henry Hudson to life on stage. During the performance, eba reenacts an
adaptation of a Native American legend about the origins of the Hudson
River. After the residency day is over, the learning doesn't end.
Teachers continue to deepen the learning with information and
activities provided by eba in a teacher packet with post performance
related activities and ideas.
